The epoxy is translucent with some light purple tinting; it is pretty clear on a while background, but you can still see purple sparkles and highlights. On a dark background the purple shows through a lot more. Be sure to look at all the images, as these are all the same bowl!!

This was the last butterfly bowl that I made in my old workshop. It’s madrone wood with epoxy in the middle. I wanted to create an “inverse drip” where the wood drips down from the top of the bowl. I thought it would also look nice with a solid piece on the bottom. This creates another strong butterfly outline. The bottom pieces are individual pieces that floated in the epoxy, so there is a slight gap between them.
The bowl is finished with “Osmo Top Oil”; a food safe hard wax oil product (info: https://osmocolorusa.com/product/topoil-high-solid/)
These bowls take approximately 14 hours of machining time, and 4-5 hours of hand work.
Dimensions: about 9 1/4″ wide, 8 1/4″ deep and 2 1/4″ tall – measured from the widest parts. It is bigger than a normal cereal bowl, but not quite as large as a salad bowl. This is the “larger” of the two versions of the butterfly bowls that I made
This bowl was for sale.
