Butterfly Bowl v1

Bowls

This art project was commissioned by my friend. I really liked how it came out, so I made several of these bowls. This is the first one (v1) made out of cherry wood on the bottom, followed by purple epoxy, madrone wood, blue epoxy and topped with more cherry. The madrone was harvested in the Santa Cruz mountains with my chainsaw mill.

The piece is machined on my Tormach PCNC 1100 milling machine. It takes about 10 hours of total machining time.

This piece is finished with Osmo oil; very durable, and it leaves the wood a natural color instead of deepening the tone. Safe for child’s toys, but not officially safe for direct food contact.

A few more details are posted on my blog over at Corbin’s Treehouse: The Butterfly Bowl.

Check out the video of me making it: The Butterfly Bowl – Wood and Epoxy Bowl Made on a CNC Machine.
