Blue Epoxy and Wood Placemats

Miscellaneous

I started working on these a while ago, and finally finished them up.

Usually I spray some two part conversion varnish on these placemats; on this set I did two different things: I did a float coat of epoxy to make them perfectly flat, and then used a satin Osmo oil on it. The Osmo and flood coat combo made it really satin/matte, and I am super pleased with the result.

The wood is California black oak, that I harvested myself from naturally downed trees in the Santa Cruz mountains.

Unfortunately, I noticed a small defect: a paint brush hair or dog hair got into the epoxy. They are semi-translucent and you can see it if you look really closely. I’m not sure what I’ll do with this set.
